Our History

Since first opening its doors in 1932, Thomas Jefferson has functioned as a public high school for the residents of San Antonio ISD. Located on the northwest-side near downtown San Antonio, the campus was built with several unique features for the early 1930's. Features include: Spanish / Moorish style architecture,  on-site gymnasium, 1,200 seat auditorium & ornate exterior concrete ornamentation.

In 1983 thru the work of Jefferson students the campus was added to both the State of Texas & US National Registry of Historic Places.

In 2005 a group of Jefferson HS teachers, alumni & local leaders came together to create an organization tasked with preserving the property & its history for future generations of San Antonio Residents. Today, the Thomas Jefferson HS Historic Preservation Society is a full fledged non-profit organization committed to the history of TJHS.
